and basic accuracy.
During lesson, student will perform a basic kick skill during a game-play situation and
combine this with individual movement at least 10 times.

Lesson Activities
Est. Time
3
min.
Activity Title
Roll Call and Safety
Class Organization
Students will be organized
into their accustomed squads
of 5 students per line.
Instructor will call student names and students
will say “here” when their name is called.
Teaching Points
“Who knows how to tie their shoes? Everyone
look down and see if your shoes are tied, and if
your squad mates are tied. If not, tie them or
have your friend tie them. Then check again.”
“No food or gum. If you’re thirsty then raise
your hand and ask to use the fountain.”
“No hitting.”
“No throwing the kickballs, only feet can kick
the kickballs.”
Est. Time
4
min.
Activity Title
Warm Ups
Class Organization
Students will form a line
behind the 1st base.
Teaching Points
“Everyone see these plates on the ground?
These are bases and we run around them
during kickball. Lets runs around them now!”
“Now I’m going to roll a ball in front of you
and you’re going to kick it like this (model
movement), and make sure you get the ball
with the top of your foot where the laces are!
Then you’re going to run extra fast around the
bases! Ok go!”
Est. Time
20
min.
Activity Title
Continuous Kickball
Class Organization
Class will be randomly
divided into 2 teams. The
class will choose their own
team names by vote. Team 1
will line up behind the first
base. Team 2 will have a
thrower, 3 basemen, and the
rest will be outfielders. The
teams will switch during
subsequent innings.
Teaching Points
“The rules of Super Kick ball are like regular
kickball, but some things are changed. The
thrower has 1 empty basket and 1 whole big
basket of kickballs to roll to your team, and the
thrower will roll them really fast. Everyone on
the other team will kick one kickball and run
around the bases for a point. The thrower can
only stop rolling kickballs when the kickballs
run out. The inning will change when the
outfielders put all the balls in the empty basket,
so the runners all have to run home before the
outfielders put the kickballs in the empty
basket. Then the teams will switch sides.”
Est. Time
8
min.
Activity Title
Cool-Down
Class Organization
Class will form a staggered
semi-circle around the
instructor after all equipment
has been organized and put
away.
Teaching Points
“How many times did each of you kick a
kickball? Did you get better after each time?”
“Was it different kick a moving kickball
instead of one that was still?”
“How did having to run and kick make kicking
the kickball different from just kicking it and
not needing to run anywhere?”
Lesson Modifications (Illness and/or Students with Disabilities)
Students who are sick and cannot do vigorous activity will be designated “all-time thrower” and if more than 1
student is sick, they will be “all-time outfielders” and will share the role of “all-time thrower” as innings
change.
Assessment Methods
1. Formal: Psychomotor-Students will participate in the game and each student will kick the kickball at
least 10 times using the correct part of his/her foot. Cognitive- Students will be asked repeatedly which
portion of the foot is used for kicking.
2. Informal: Psychomotor- students will be observed for wind-up, kick, and follow-through when it is their
turn to kick. Cognitive- students will be asked, as a group during cool-down phase, to discuss
differences and similarities of Super Kickball to standard softball or baseball. Affective- Students will
be encouraged to show respect for other team and discouraged from trying to keep score or taunting the
other team.
Equipment Required
1. 25 small-size Kickballs
2. 4 base plates.
3. Outdoor field and/or indoor gym with enough indoor space to accommodate 20-30 children playing
Super Kickball.
Safety Considerations
1. Students will be checked for proper attire and shoes tied at opening of class.
2. Students on defending team will be spaced back far enough that kickballs will not be moving fast
enough to cause harm.
3. Instructor will act additionally as referee and supervisor throughout the lesson.
Alternate Lesson/Plan B (e.g. Limited Students, Inclement Weather etc.)
1. Lesson would be ideally conducted outside. However, in case of bad weather, lesson will be conducted
in field house or gym.
2. If enough kickballs cannot be procured for lesson, students will play a variation of Super Kickball in
which 3-5 throws simultaneously roll 3-5 kickballs to an equal number of kickers, who will run the
bases and be tagged out in a similar manner to normal kickball; the team will get “3 outs” but only “1
out” will be counted per run, so at least 9-15 students will still be able kick during a single inning.
